What is the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel??
Disneyland is getting an exciting new TOWER with over 344 rooms in the Disneyland Hotel in California! This is a much needed addition and amazing news for DVC!! Currently for CA there’s only Villas at the Grand Californian which has 71 maximum rooms. This project brings about ~267 more studios into the mix with ~36 brand new “Duo” studios that fit two people. While the room sizes are small, the quantity is great but still less that what we need on the west!
Each tower at Disneyland Hotel has a name ranging from Adventure, Fantasy and Frontier tower. The new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel (“VDH”) is adjacent to the Frontier tower and is given the title of Discovery Tower.
This tower is current a mixture of DVC and Cash. It has it’s own pool area that’s to be shared with the regular Hotel. Note the figure below for location

July 20, 2020 Update:
Disney releases the plan proposals to the Anaheim Planning commission on this day and it was approved. The original links to the document are now broken and cannot be referenced, However CEQA has a copy and is publicly available as of March 15 2023. The document which has detailed renderings of the plans proposed are found on the CEQA website. The diagrams anyone will find of interests are found in the first 100 pages, with some pool renderings located around the 900th page. The rest of the document is more or less technical jargon. Below you will find the interesting drawings and diagrams.

May 21, 2020 Update:
According to @MagicAndWalnut on twitter, Disney Released new drawings and blueprints of the tower at a community webinar. The drawings indicate there’s going to be an “L” shaped tower with a pool directly behind it. Most of the diagrams were focused on the declining tower and where concept arts of the 4 towers once completed.
November 22, 2019 Update:
After over 14 years, Disneyland in Anaheim CA is finally getting more DVC rooms!! Not at the Villas at the Grand Californian though! Back around November 22, 2019, DVC submitted an application to build a 12 story 4th tower in the Disneyland Hotel Area. The Original proposal called for adding approximately 350 DVC rooms. It was slated to be built on the grassy area of South Walnut Street and next to the Frontier Tower.
It was estimated to increase the square footage of Disneyland Hotel by 280,000 Sq Ft. It’s sister resort the Villas at the Grand Californian has 71 rooms, meaning the above adds at least 50% more time share units to the system.
Below is a schematic of the approximate location provided by Google Maps in conjunction with Disney:
