HOW MANY POINTS Should I Buy in Disney Vacation Club (“DVC”)?

So How Many Points should you buy??

Now that you picked a resort, Let’s talk about how many points do you need.

The number of points all depends on how much you want to spend, how many days you want to stay, and what room type is good. This is all a personal choice.

One thing to consider is if the benefits matter. If they do you’re somewhat set in that you need 150 points directly from Disney. But that’s only one part of this whole process.

Another thing to consider is that current resorts as per the banner above have incentives. Like for instance, buy 100 or more points, then get a $2 per point discount. the savings can make them some of the cheaper direct options

As you can see the average cost for a week here ranges from 129 points to 1358 points. Realistically most people aren’t trying to buy a raw 1358 points at the most expensive resort. That’s $434,560!!! Instead you should take the max number you need and divide by either two or three. This is because you can bank and borrow to get anywhere from 1x to 3x your annual points. So 1358/3 = 453 points is what you need to do a week at the busiest time at one of the most expensive resorts in the biggest room!

Now this 453 points doesn’t have to come from VGC you could own this amount anywhere, just remember what happens with booking times!! There are only two three bedrooms at VGC. That’s really hard to get at 7 months, but it could save you a lot of money!

In Summary

  • Decide what the the biggest room and time category you need for your resort.
  • Consider that your family will grow in size meaning if you plan for studio pricing, then need to upgrade to a one bedroom you won’t have enough.
  • Consider if you wan to go annual, biannually, or triannually.
  • Buy what you need but have a buffer!
