What is a Disney Vacation Club (“DVC”) Banking Window?

What are Banking Windows??

There’s a finite time after you receive your points that you have to decide if you want them to be used the following year. This is your banking window and it’s 8 Months after you get your points. That means the last 4 months they are permanently stuck in that Use Year.

So now the million dollar question, why do you care?

Most people buy timeshares or DVC specifically to routinely go to Disney during a set time. Maybe it’s Christmas, or spring break. Maybe there’s a set time in summer or ranges in summer you want to go.

Well the idea is that if you have this set time, AND for some reason you can no longer travel it, can you cancel and have your points potentially bankable still to use?

Ideally since you have a 8 month window, you want your cancelation to happen such that you are inside 8 months. So once you cancel there’s plenty of time to rebook a trip.

Let’s do some examples:

You travel every June around June 3-9. Then a June use year is great for you. You would’ve just gotten your points and if you cancel, you now have 7 months where you can do something with it (assuming you’re > 31 days out when you cancel, or they go into holding). You might ask, does that mean you can book that June trip since it’s the following year?

No because your window opens up 11 months before. Say you want to book June 3-9 2023. You have a June Use Year. That means this reservation requires June 2023 use year points. You can book this reservation July 3, 2022 (Which is 11 months before, assuming you own there) . Use year does not care which year’s worth of points you use. In fact the dash board often include a 4 year time frame because points can come from everywhere. The important thing is you know when you can book, and what use year you need to make the booking.

Let’s talk about one more component of Use Years and that is the holding point window, and what that means, click next below!
