Do you need a Disney Vacation Club (“DVC”) BLUE CARD/Benefits?

A blue card??

A large part of the next step involves asking yourself if benefits matter to you? Before they went digital in 2021, they gave everyone that was a benefited member a blue card. Those without benefits were given white cards. These days you load your digital card in your phone wallet and it will say “DVC Y” for having a blue card, or a fully benefited member and “DVC ND” for those restricted and having no benefits or a white card.

Here’s some basics:

Access to:

  • DVC’s after dark events known as “Moonlight Magic.”
  • Discounts (IE: 10% food/merchandise)
  • Annual Pass discounts
  • Lounges like top of the world, or epcot
  • Convert out vacation points to reservation points
  • Member Cruises via points
  • Early access to some events like Tron.

To put some context I came online in 2018. At the time the basic requirement was 50 points directly purchased from DVC to get the blue card. They it went to 75, 100, 125, 150 points. In truth you only need to get the blue card ONCE to unlock most benefits. the minimum you need keeps increasing and 150 points is quite a bit. Getting the blue card sooner rather than later is a smarter financial choice if you want the benefits.

So for example you have 150 pts direct and 50 points resale. The resale does not get you a blue card, but your 150 points does. This means if you wanted to go on a member cruise or to Moonlight Magic you absolutely can because one of your contracts have a blue card.

I think personally the real benefit is moonlight magic, but as you saw that’s a lot more extra you’re spending just for one event. All the other benefits aren’t significant. I think having restricted resale contracts is not worth the cost you’re paying, but that’s a personal preference and I’m heavily biased to direct. the Savings are significant if you need budget friendlier options!
